2 years and 33 minutes

Name a band that was only together for 2 years had 2 members that had great careers in other groups and are part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I know the photos are dead give aways, but I will give you a minute to figure it out. I will do another lyric interlude to help you out.

"So, get all those blues,
Must be a thousand hues."
"And be just differently used."
"You just know."

"You sit there mesmerized
By the depth of her eyes
That you can't categorize."
"She got soul.
She got soul.
She got soul.
She got soul!
"

Ok, give up? Well Buffalo Springfield is the answer. They did more in two years then most bands today do in their career or in their life time. The first time I heard this album I was like wow, this is cool and before I knew it, it was finished. 33 minutes later I was like, lets play this again. If Sweetheart of the Rodeo by The Byrds was the great Country Rock conquest then Buffalo Springfield stole the spotlight.

This album is amazing from front to back. Each of the major band members write on this album and the highlight is the Neil Young songs. Being a fan of this musical period I put this album in my top 10 from the 1960's. It is amazing that the two years they were together Buffalo Springfield made some of the most important music of their time.

I think this album started with me when my uncle told me that since I am a Neil Young fan I should listen to this. He told me that Neil Young was a member of this band. He handed me their greatest hits album from 1969 and the rest they say is history. I think I wore out the tape of the greatest hits and had to buy a new one. First impressions I did not know what I was in for, but after one cycle of the tape I knew I was in love with the lush harmonies and great musicianship.

It was recorded during the early summer of 1967 and came out in late 1967. They played Monterey Pop festival and saw the first hint of the David Crosby and Stephen Stills collaboration that would lead to Crosby, Stills and Nash. David Crosby joined them on that Monterey Stage after being fired from The Byrds. It was a point that when the album came out that Buffalo Springfield came out it was only near the end for the band.

It still baffles me that they put out 3 albums in such a quick time that in this age it could not be done. I think that's why I like it. It is still a classic in most worlds but to me it is a prize and great capsule of the late 1960's. Enjoy a fun album that will beg you to play it again and again.
